Good comments! I couldn't agree more with you on religion. Mine says that there are many paths to God, just as there are many cultures. Anyway, ultimately, it's not a group trip, except for fellowship here on the physical realm. Death (homecoming), like meditation, is an inner journey that each one must take for him or herself....we can help one another, with prayer and sending love; but that's all. The Experience itself is beyond the earthly congregation's power to further or withold. The only service we as brothers and sisters can render one another, spiritually, is support in the Spirit, and always that help is best expressed as love. Of which tolerance for differences, is but another form.
There is a type of fundamentalist, politically aggressive psuedo-Christianity afoot today that i wouldn't care to live with; I call it fascist. When religious leaders call for the assassination of other nations' democratically-elected heads of state, viz. Pat Robertson / Hugo Chavez, I sense their agenda has little to do with Spirit and more with a twisted power trip. "By their fruit you shall know them".
So I will gladly pranam to Lord Jesus if you won't call me a devil-worshipper if I read the Bhagavad-Gita or have Shiva & Parvati framed, dancing on my wall...:-) Or Vishnu as Krishna, walking together with Radha in the evening garden.
There is no conflict because there is only One. And that Life animates us all, and is our truest Self. Ultimately, all form is illusion. Only God is Real.
Would it make any difference if you were Muslim, you ask. No. There are scary, intolerant fundamentalist Christians AND Muslims (AND Hindus), and also there are enlightened, kind, tolerant and wise saints and pilgrims in every path who truly "get it"...and are busy manifesting Love and serving God thereby. I hope--- I'm sure, that in the latter camp, there are many more, than in the camp of hatred and division.
"People are people and we need not to be so "your in that camp or that camp", we do need to pull together and realise that the system wants us to emphasize the way we are different, that is their plan, and we need not fall into that trap."
All I can say is ABSOLUTELY RIGHT! Amen to that one, if you don't mind me saying so....:-)
If we are divided, we are alone and afraid. "The War on Terror" is hype...it is a war OF terror against all people and against freedom....and especially against LOVE and HOPE.
But when Love and Hope are united and strong in the hearts of all People, it will be, it IS, a matchless force to be reckoned with.
The second paragraph you wrote, about the communal mindset becoming David and slaying the Goliath, and all the rest....well said! I can only wholeheartedly second everything you have written there! And written well, I might add.
Hard work....well, it's obvious you're on the same page we are. I wonder if many younger folk on this list have any idea of the amount of sheer work and time and effort it takes to meet a family's material needs in a homestead-type environment. Everybody wants to go to Heaven, but who wants to die? Er---hope you kinow what I mean. Not that work=Death exactly....:-)
Well, little or no matter. Whether a individual or a family is aware of the effort required, if they will survive long into the 21st century, they WILL. We all must. It can be a drag. Or it can be a source of profound joy. Sharing the work, sharing the benefits....I feel, is the way we are MEANT to live and work together.
"From each according to their abilities, to each according to their need" may be a Marxist saying, but I think it also captures the spirit of community in settings as diverse as the Essenses, the early Christians, the Amish and the Hutterites today. Not to mention the best of the hippie / "New Age" adventures of the 60s, 70s, and 80s....and "eco-village" communal settlements today....facing a "Perfect Storm" of cries convergence unlike Mankind has seen since....Noah's time?
One last comment...there IS a strong alternative movement here in northern Idaho. Mostly VERY conservative, Christian in tone. Strong emphasis on self-reliance. That especially includes food production / health care, and education. Homeschooling....there is a very active scene here....the cultural blend ranges from hip / Left / humanist to fundamentalist Christian / rockribbed conservative, and everything in between. But one thing most all of us DO agree on, is the fact that FREEDOM is to be cherished. And the fact that our Gummint is the enemy (apparently) of our freedom is not lost on very many. So people are very jealous of their liberties here, and don't surrender them easily.
Lastly, it is good to hear of a skilled man who would joyfully pass on that skill to younger hands. We shall surely have to share all the knowledge we can with those of the younger generations if they're to be at all ready in time, to transition through well.
Good Night (or Day, as the case may be when you read this), and God Bless You & Yours.
peace brother Ben, I will not thump you or others with the Bible, however, I will not apologise for being a Christian either, if you see reality in a different way, that is fine, a long as I can learn from your thoughts and you can learn from mine. Would it make a difference if I was muslim? or any other religion? People are people and we need not to be so "your in that camp or that camp," we do need to pull together and realise that the system wants us to emphasize the way we are different, that is their plan, and we need not fall into that trap.
Yes we do have a family, and I agree about the corporate ownership of the planet, but with a commune mind, we can be david and slay the Goliath of their so called ownership, about the intrusion of corrupt authority into our private life, do not allow them the power that they think they have over and have made people believe they have, to be in your reality, that is where the free soul is a danger to them, The constitution in its' original spirit was written in fear of tyranny and having the Forfathers write such a document acknowledges the systems evil and they wanted to be free of that, just lke we do, that is why they started communes with like minded people, and now the same government is playing the role of the british that they wanted to be free of, now they are the opressors, BUT the spirit of community with the people is the same spirit that was in the begginning, and just as the british found out you cannot sqaush the God given desire to be truly free, our GUMMent (cause they gum up everything they do), will and have found out this to be true. The Gumment is in need of an overhaul, and we need to either lend support for it's overhaul or begin the overhaul one commune at a time. The armed forces do deter other countries from coming in and wrecking our lives, but it should also be a defensive army not a conquering army, having said that, the extremist muslim, understands only force, not talk, so trying to appease them by conversation does not work, because it is written in the Koran that you can lie to your enemies and mislead them, and then turn right around and slit their throats.
Hard work is a given, because post do not just plop themselves into the ground , wire does not string itself, hay does not march off to the barn, so I agree. I would LOVE to teach the skills of farrier work and blacksmithing when the youth have an interest, and it is important to them. Living out away from town has been somethng I have done when growing up, and I would not see it as a problem at all, I may have the lungs of a 98 year old man, but I am a healthy 98 year old man, no seriously we would not have issues with the distance from town. WE will wait until my youngest is out of school , so it will be a while before we can see moving, unless convinced other wise, I would move anytime but I need to respect the mrs' opinion, due to schooling is there one around there? I would have to see that there was a homeschooler program in the area, that we could be a part of, because the kids education has to have standards to graduate, it would be nice to have a working vacation to help the communes developmental stages, bathrooms, water, etc, common house those things. well this is long I know but while fencing I had time to think about it all, willow out.
A few more questions for you, if I may....:-) Are you looking to relocate to a more limitless space at this time? OK with other NW states? Have a family?
Though Christian, are you tolerant towards those that choose to see Reality in a different cultural context? (I know....personal, but so is the idea of joining community, right?)
Politically, we are OK with most ideas except corporate ownership of the Planet, i.e., the destruction of Mothere Earth, torture, the elimination of habeus corpus and the rule of law, the bribery of the entire judicial and legislative branches of Gov't., the intrusion of corrupt centralized authority into every aspect of private life, monstrous and murderous invasions of other countries based on outright lies for profit (such as the fictitious Gulf Of Tonkin "incident" and the equally bogus "search" for WMDs in Iraq in more recent times....if you believe in the original spirit and wording of the US Constitution and the "let & let live" philosophy, then we can work and live together.
We also believe in hard work when necessary---it seems that's TOO often the case!!--and in ample recreation / communication / playing time, if that ever could be the case on a working farm & ranch. I think that with many younger hands, what we need to survive can be MUCH easier provided, than by (aging) individuals working by themselves or as one couple....as is the case now.
We own and use most tools, and that includes heavy machinery, needed to equip a small town. Communal use, maintenance and de-facto possession makes these more affordable, better maintained, etc.
To reach our goal of building a "Lifeboat", we need skilled people, MORE people, more hands-on, a greater VARIETY of talents, viewpoints.
Would you be open to teaching your farrier / blacksmithing skills to young people, at the right time and in the right setting?
Would living 30 miles out of town by the highway, 20 miles by the scenic route, be an insurmountable medical problem for you & yours?
Thanks for your reply. We're in the middle of haying season....gotta put up quite a good stash of hay for 22 American Cream drafters...and one Morgan.
We are trying to get our horses sold off, mostly, so that we don't have yet another financial bloodbath winter feeding season....hay went from $100 / Ton to $200 two years ago, and remains high. Also want to beat the deadline for the mandatory imposition of the NAIS. Funny how we increasingly don't get to vote, and our reps in Congress don't get a shot at debating on or voting down, some of these crazy ideas like the National Animal Identification System or the NAU, "North American Union.
Anyway, we're hoping to just keep maybe 4 to 6, and sell both studs. Can't afford to be breeders anymore. I fear most other heavy horse people are in the same boat, what with this economy an' all.
How are you disabled, Willow? If you don't mind my askin'....obviously you are ambulatory, since you are farrier; I assume that you are strong and can move around easily enough. Is it respiratory or neurological, Agent Orange or the more recent Gulf War syndrome or the delayed stress disorder from the current rounds of invasions?
You sound very skilled, how did you come by your learning? Any background in construction other than water and HVAC systems?
Hi Willow...I just joined...I was here on your page, so I see my photo is plugged in here to leave a comment. So I will. Hello! Always good to meet others who have handled pipe wrenches and have been in charge of keeping the water lines working. I think that skill will always be in demand in a community!
