How important is it to have a pure sine wave versus modified sine wave inverter. Can a modifided sine wave inverter power a TV? computer?

Hey, I almost made the same mistake and bought a DIY guide for solar energy. Thankfully , I researched it a bit and heard alot of critism. Power4your home or something like that it was called. I read one review, it did say although vague, it did h...

How did you find A Place for Gathering?

About Me:
I'm a old hippie Jesus freak, deadhead....but I've set that aside and been a Locomotive engineer for 15 years. I have 4 kids, 3 are grown and none of them think that money is the most important thing in life all of them do something to help others.
I'm tired of the rat race that most call LIFE.
Hobbies:
solar electricity, passive solar energy, water purification on a small scale and smaller $$, adapting new technology to the financial scale of developing nations....and in my spare time....LOL
What kind of Skill and Support can you offer a community?
Horticulture background, residential construction, Solar Electric and passive solar work in jungle situations.
What States are you interested in for Community?
Alabama, Tennessee, or Arkansas, I'm adding (after much thought)
some areas of Central America
My Visions or Views for Intentional Communities are:
I have no focused vision at this time...but I do feel that a sustainable community must be open to ALL
OK I know this site isn't really a political one but some of you will have to comment on this

Hey , I saw your post about solar power.. I have just started researching this and am looking for any info I can get...
I am an electrican, so I understand alot, but not when it comes to DC.
I have learned how to constuct the panels, and connect to the batteries, but where it gets confusing is what kind of inverter I will need.
Id like to be able to run at least 3000watts, more if possible.
Is it easier to just use multiple inverters at the same time, or is buying one big one the way to go?
I was about to order a DIY guide, but have read its a scam and all the info can be found for free...
Is there any info it the guide you mentioned you are willing to share?
Can you maybe help a brother out, and just email me the PDF book? Ill owe you big time... and ill help provide kleen energy to ppl who need it once I know what im doing. my email is augustwest@cyber-rights.net
I am really serious about learning this technology, as i want to eventually get off the grid. Thanks , and if you cant do it, any advice is still greatly appreciated. You said youve hooked up 10 systems, what did you use to go from DC to AC? which models, how much did they cost, and how many watts could you crank out at one time, assuming bright sunny weather?

It is a bit under 150 ft. The main problem with getting water from the river is keeping whatever kind of pump you create there when the river floods. It comes down pretty hard and fast.

Alan---

Have you decided to settle in Central America? Seeing what is happening to our country now, how does it influence your thinking re where to go or to live out the coming changes?
Hope you're doing OK, finding work after the RR job ended, and staying healthy and happy, hermano!

We are right off IH-10 Between Junction and Sonora. The North West edge of the TX Hill country on the North Llano river. 30 mi from either (small) town but not really far from anywhere because of the highway.

Meant to type 'reading the blog' instead of 'ready' it would be nice if you could go back and edit comments; suppose it's like writing in pen, encourages the confidence to not make mistakes.

Fascinating stuff; What type of barrel did you find most efficient for warming the greenhouse? I suppose this would be stuff best placed in a discussion so the thread can be followed easier; I would also be interested in learning more about the earth walls, any pictures available?

as an old deadhea d you may be interested in ready the blog I just posted. I caught wind of one of the surviving members currently on a percussion tour, full stage setup.

Good to see others are currently active with projects like yours.

you mention 'passive solar work,' does that refer to directly utilizing the suns energy as opposed to collecting it with solar paneling? I ask because a new company just began in my hometown building solar panels and I find it intriguing; I have done a little bit of research into windmills and would like to find out more about cleaner energy sources/storage's.
