Good idea, I might try keeping up some plants this winter. I heard someone grew a record cabbage in a winter night. My gourd plant didn't survive our first snowfall up here but I potted a garlic plant and have it growing well. Can't decide whether...

How did you find A Place for Gathering?
A forum post led me here when I was browsing rainbow family discussions.
About Me:
I'll walk my own trail and plant where I see fertile ground. Looking to have a few seeds sowen in the cleansed out soil through which I've tread. I believe it is onto itself as where the snake can tread so we've all the more required diligence in taking care with each step.
Hobbies:
play; stick, poi, seipa and maybe even a little soccer and straplinen this summer. Gonna take it to the lake and hopefully meet some friends along the way.
What kind of Skill and Support can you offer a community?

Ownership of land versus property

Ever seen a woods scream? I have. Spotted by a familiar I found myself in a woods that had recently been run through. Many trees had been taken down and littered the ground in an unfriendly manner. The ground itself was porous to the point of unsafe walking conditions with roots of buck thorn already sprouting shoots of revival. I felt the pull of a necessity on a natural level that would create work and possibly a chance to invite a few apprentices that I could take into the environment. So, I… Continue

Good Afternoon,
Do U remember a thread that we had going about Ram pumps?
Well I finally got that info U asked about:
0.6 x Q x F/E = D

Q is the available drive flow in gallons per minute, F is the fall in feet from the water source to the ram, E is the elevation from the ram to the water outlet, and D is the flow rate of the delivery water in gallons per minute. 0.6 is an efficiency factor and will differ somewhat between various ram pumps. For instance, if 12 gallons per minute is available to operate a ram pump (D), the pump is placed 6 feet below the water source (F), and the water will be pumped up an elevation of 20 feet to the outlet point (E), the amount of water that may be pumped with an appropriately-sized ram pump is

0.6 x 12 gpm x 6 ft / 20 ft = 2.16 gpm

The same pump with the same drive flow will provide less flow if the water is to be pumped up a higher elevation. For instance, using the data in the previous example but increasing the elevation lift to 40 feet (E):

0.6 x 12 gpm x 6 ft / 40 ft = 1.08 gpm
Hope that helps

hi again,

yeah, "to till" is verbal for tillage, and that's correct, as far as I know.
I can't wait...I'm kinda rusty with the horse plowing, and that's both an art & a science. Takes a lotta pull-power. And adjustment.
Discing is easier, and you can be a lot less precise. Harrowing and cultivating after that is easy, too. Just repetitious...but then, horses LOVE repetition.
Can't WAIT for Spring! Da smell of da warming soil...! Doin' the New Dirt Dance in my mind already...:-0

A scripted tort? Hmmm. Well, I guess I see your point, which i'm thinking is that all discussion of any subject, even down to individual likes and dislikes, IS relevant to getting to know one another, pre-emptively resolve issues, and thereby create community...right?
If so, then, yeah, I guess you're right. I suppose having already dealt with this topic at some length, both with others here and on another list, I'm just gettin' short with it. Sorry, I don't mean to be curt or rude to you, bro. Just getting antsy, let's cut to the chase, let those that agree get it on and get together and start DOIN' THE WORK...now!

You could say that I'm too damn old to be this damn impatient, to mis-quote a country song...and you're probably right again. :-)

BTW---equating eating beef with fast food and obesity is kinda bogus in a way. I mean, yeah, the way most of us Americans eat, you're right...big dollops of meat, fried food an' all. But one COULD use it like the rest of the world does more often than not (or like WE did back in the colonial days), and just eat it infrequently, more as an addition or flavoring to a starch like rice, potatoes, or noodles, for example.
OTOH...IF we ate mostly vegetarian, and only occasionally used animal protein, such as butter or cheese, with no animal flesh at all...we'd probably meet our nutritional needs 100%. Maybe someday before too far off, I'll get there. I'd feel better, lighter, and there'd be no more killing-karma...directly, at least.
I'll have to cross the quitting-coffee bridge before I work on that one, though. At least, I think I'd prefer to.
