- I created a Place for Gathering.
- About Me:
- I'm a Mother to 6 beautiful children. 1 Girl-14 and 5 boys-11,9,7,and twins 6. Wife of almost 14 years. We have been talking about joining/starting a Intentional Community for several years and have been looking online for places to meet like-minded people. But as some of you may find, there is just not enough websites for this. So, I have taken this opportunity to create a place for people to connect with others who want to persue the path of Intentional Communities.
We have been dreaming of the day that we can work together to build long-lasting relationships with others and work together to make our planet a better place for our children and ourselves. To teach them how to respect the Mother Earth and her blessings. To live off the land, grow your own food, raise animals, etc...
I hope that all of you find what you are seeking here and can persue the path of your dreams and find people whom you can connect with. I know that we are hoping to find the same things.

- Hobbies:
- My hobbies include hanging out with my kiddys and swimming, going to the park, playing games, or just taking them for a walk. In my free time (when kiddos are sleeping) I love to make beaded and hemp jewelry. I make all types of jewelry-necklaces, bracelets, earrings, etc. Trying to try it going into a Profitable Business. New project that I am goin to try is to make Braided Rugs. I have been wantin to try it for a while now. So I let you know how it goes.
- What kind of Skill and Support can you offer a community?
- My skills have mostly been with child rearing and taking care of the daily needs of a family. But with anyone who has done this you need multi-skills. Such as time management, money management, directing, cooking, cleaning skills.
My husband on the other hand has been working in the Construction field for 16+ years. He has wide varity of skills including but not limited too - all carpentry, siding, roofing, plumbing, electrical, landscaping.
While we have really no money to put into a community we have skills, passion and heart to help make a Community to be proud of.
- What States are you interested in for Community?
- Tennessee, Kentucky, anywhere my heart leads me too.
- My Visions or Views for Intentional Communities are:
- My visions of a community involves working together to build a place for our children to learn to walk lightly on our Mother Earth. To be kind, compassionate, understanding of others. To learn to survive without the modern conviences if they need too.
I would want to have gardens and greenhouses. Hopefully building our homes together as a community from Natural Materials, Solar, Wind, etc. Having a Communal Kitchen/Dining Area. Working together to build small businesses to bring money into the community.
Just working, building, sharing, laughing, and spending time with one another building relationships to last and lifetime.

- The big problem in organizing rural ICs is making a living. Seems that is a stumbling block for most folks.
To begin an effort like this, you just about have to have other means or have something established already that you can bring along.

- Well, Austin and Tori are coming back here to join us...which we're all excited about about! Since they've left the first time, to go back to nurse Tori's sis through a back surgery, we have stayed in contact, so instead of ending the relationship between the two families, it's gotten much deeper and feels much more now like community and family than it did at first. So that situation is going very well!
As to getting a lotta interest from other folks, we have met two or three couples / families with very serious interest, through ic.org. So I guess I shouldn't complain...don't mean to, anyway. It's just my impatient nature, And the fact that I came of age in a time when huge efforts came together seemingly overnight, compared to the extreme slowness of today, as far as response to obvious need.
I guess I need to just keep remembering that it's God's movie, not ours, ultimately. And to just surrender to being a bit player. (I gotta admit that one doesn't come too easy for me, either....but oh well gotta make the effort).

As to getting response to forming community....yeah....it's hard enough to attract interest and make it happen when you DO have the land!
Classic case of "what comes first, the chicken or the egg?" type conundrum.
Back in the 60s and 70s, people just went for it, and word got around like lightning withOUT computers. It was just Happening.
Now, we have all these fantastic ways to communicate and come together, but everybody's afraid to do more than wet their big toe in the water. Some caution is fine and necessary, but c'MON folks!
Here we are at the End of the Age, and we wanta be all alone and "safe" in our thin-walled little cubes !?! Unbelieveable.
I wonder if women have this hard a time gettin guys to commit? :-)

- I wish I had high-speed instead of dial-up. I would love to check out the "We Love You" film you added awhile back. But no "streaming videos" with the backwoods dial-up trip....we're just one step up from tom-toms....still occasionally use the odd smoke signal.

Yeah, wierd....I have no idea what caused my profile description text to vanish from the screen. I went to the "My PAge" click and saved it, and then back to My PAge, and then it re-appeared.
I did nothing to change, delete, or move the Profile text. It's like the "1 new" on the Inbox, when there's nothing there....dunno, don't understand why it's there....I'm no computer shaman. :-) Mystery.

How's your search for land going? Got any others to throw in with you yet? Hope land prices in TN aren't as ridiculous as they've gotten up here...we've been "discovered" by the Napa Valley folks.
Here, it's a push to get ready for winter, as usual in September.
But it's pleaant work compared to gettin the hay stash up, since we're no longer paranoid of every rain that comes along...:-)
Best of luck with your new Tye Dyed Acres project...may it be the opportunity that you & yours have been dreaming of for so long!

Colleen said… - Still in NJ but englishtown, NJ about an hour northwest of where I was. Rooming with a friend that owns a old farmhouse. It's a very lush and green area farms all over the place...much more my speed. Although I am commuting to work :( going to have to see about making a job switch but with the way NJ's economy is I might be better off just sticking with where I am at.
