We just back from germany, where we visited Charlotte and her German husband Mattias and baby Lillian, who was then 10 days old. She is named Lillian Belle Wolf...after her great-grandmother Lilly Belle Scheide, a Texas Irish-American woman who married a Texan German-American man...a descendant of one Peter Scheide, who fled germany during the Revolution of 1849. So Lillian is the 1st german citizen (also American) in the family since about 1851.
What goes around comes around I guess...:-)

Anyway, we are all thrilled at the latest incarnation of the Goddess to arrive in the clan!

I see that this comment doesn't show what comment of yours I'm referring to, but I hope you remember...that must've been in a "discussion", I guess.

Hope you're having a mellow night, or a great day, depending when you read this...:-)

Hmmmm. Yes, I'm afraid I have to agree....girls are definitely better at "people pleasing" than the lads are...or at least they CARE more about it!
Our two girls each were NHS, top 5 of their respective classes, went to very good colleges, landed white-collar jobs with impresive resumes. Their husbands also have impressive-sounding credentials.
Our son hated high school, dropped out, right away took his GED (which he scored like 98% on), enrolled in a tech school, went for two years, and earned an Associate Degree in Heavy Equipment Maintenance. So--we have one with a double Bachelor's in English Lit & Spanish, one with a Bachelor's and Masters in Mathematics, and a diesel mechanic. Yet guess who is by far and away the most capable and grounded, in dealing with life's "day-to-day"s?
Strange thing about the world & its "hoops", huh?
This society is so upside-down and bassakwards it blows my mind...but that isn't to say that the girls' accomplishments aren't amazing, too.
I guess it just goes to prove that the skills and talents of ALL are needed, and deserving of recognition and thanks.

I agree that it would make things better for your family, I'm sure. I know the feeling. I hope that he can find work soon.
Many blessings,

Profile Information

I'm looking to join, form or already affiliated with an Intentional Community?
I'm looking to join
How did you find A Place for Gathering?
Searching communal living on web. Ended up on Hipforums and saw Royce's link here.
About Me:
I'm married to Ernie with 4 beautiful kids (sons 15,13 & 5 and my mini me daughter 3).
What kind of Skill and Support can you offer a community?
My husband is an union carpenter and a general jack of all trades. I have 2 teenage sons that are fairly good workers. I don't have any real skills but I am a hard worker and a master of useless info. I'm also fairly good with kids and animals.
What States are you interested in for Community?
preferably in ohio but not that concerned about local
My Visions or Views for Intentional Communities are:
I would like a big extended family kind of place. A place where there's lot's of kids and animals. I kind of like a little chaos. It should eventually be mostly self-sustaining. My family has different religious and political beliefs (yes, from each other even the kids) so it would have to be a very open community. Besides, as long as nobody gets too uptight, debates can be fun.

Facebook

One of my old friends for High School recently told me to join Facebook. What a trip! I've gotten updates about people I haven't thought about for years. It's been a little frustrating because Ernie is still trapped in the World of Warcraft and I have to fight to get online. It seems that the people I grew up with have a lot of the same interests that I do. Go figure. I was always an oddball, and in High School I considered myself a "Freak". (That was the group that had all of the non-traditional… Continue

Elections

I'm very hopeful now that the elections are over. I think Obama will be a great president and things will get done. (I'm a little biased by the fact that DEMs like to build things and Ernie's a form-carpenter.) And the people of Ohio voted wonderfully on the issues. We were seriously considering leaving Ohio. Now don't get me wrong, Ohio isn't the best place in the world but it is where all of my childrens' grandparents live. We know lots of people here and the climate is actually pretty good w/… Continue

Warcraft

I haven't been on the computer lately because my wonderful husband Ernie has been sucked into the World of Warcraft. I was hoping we could avoid it as a family but, no, it happened. It happens around here. We are gamers. I try to keep it down to a couple of times a year myself. But I don't get online gaming. I like to get sucked into my own thing. I wouldn't want other people in there annoying me. I play to get away form it all. If I wanted to interact like that with people I would do it. I live… Continue

Rainbow Family

I'm rather new at identifying myself as a hippie and, thanks to Pasta and Royce, just rediscovered the Rainbow family. I was brought up rather conservative and had heard about them a long time ago but never really thought about it until now. I only started to think of myself as a hippie because my 15 year old son kept talking about my "free-love, hippie" stuff. I'm not a true hippie. I believe in the 2nd amendment and the death penalty. But I also believe in personal freedom, socialism, toleranc… Continue

Dogs

I have seen a lot of communities that prohibit pets. They say that they are trying to foster "human" relationships or get back to how our ancestors lived. I'm sorry. I'm a dog person. But, dog's and humans have co-existed for 15,000 years. Dog's are probably responsible for much of humanity's progress. Dog's have helped people hunt, herd, keep their family safe, find lost people, pull heavy loads, and clean up for thousands of years. To deny dog's is to deny modern humans. Face it, in the wild w… Continue
